Robyn Rihanna Fenty the singer of "Pon De Replay" fame was born on 20 February 1988, in the Parrish of St. Michael, an island in the Caribbean. Her father was a Barbadian and her mother was a Guyanese. She had a middle-class up bringing. She went to Charles F. Broome Memorial School and then got to Combermere School in Waterford, St. Michael.
Rihanna's entry into the world of music was almost overnight. She never thought of music as her career when she was young. Nevertheless, she sung for her own pleasure or to the wishes of her friends and family. She was introduced to the music industry by music producer named Evan Rogers, from New York City, who was mesmerized by her voice, appearance and style.
She got her first break in 2004, with Rogers and co-producer Carl Sturken producing a demo CD featuring twelve songs sung by her, including her "Pon De Replay". These were send off to various record labels and people within the industry.
In January 2005, Rihanna moved to New York. In February 2005, she signed up with Jay Z (also known as Shawn Carter), rapper and CEO of Def Jam Recordings. The grape-wine informed that Carter would not leave her until she signed. Her popularity had peaked with the demo CD and she was sought after by many labels.
Rihanna had a contract of six albums. She worked with recording and co-writing the songs for her album (LP) "Music of the Sun". Her album was released later in the year. Her songs concerted the Caribbean influences integrated with hip hop, R&B, reggae, soul and "soca" – cultural music of Barbados.
The Caribbean diva's first song in the album "Pon De Replay" took to the #2 on the US charts and #15 in Canada. The single was also nominated for the 2005 Teen Choice Awards for Choice Summer Song. In April 2006, Rihanna's second release "A Girl Like Me" set off. It received an initial success and took her fame to new heights.
The same year she tried her hands on acting with a cameo in Bring It On: All Or Nothing and also appeared in the episodes of All My Children and Las Vegas. Rihanna is all set to release her third album "Good Girl Gone Bad with a sexier, sultrier image" this year.
